Artist's Statement/Bio
Winter’s intaglio prints, books, studio art quilts, and paintings reference psychological and religious archetypes, altered states, and earth-based philosophies. Her approach is inspired by the visionary Symbolists, Surrealists, and the ethos of Ecofeminism. Images often include the human figure in relation to landscape and nature.
Her art has appeared in juried exhibitions, museums and publications such as Changing Skies Vol. 2; Art Quilt Magazine; An Appalachian Journey Toward Justice (cover art), The Contemporary Quilt: New American Quilts and Fiber Art; The Conscious Use of Metaphor in Outward Bound (cover art); Moving Mountains music CD; We’Moon International Datebook, U.U. World magazine; various literary journals, and her own book, 4 Warnings: Shamanic Journeys.
Winter painted at Hartford Art School, holds a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, and studied at Pilchuck Glass School.
